View full detailsFuhr multipoint locks featuring roller and shootbolt mechanisms were a standard choice for high-security hinged patio doors throughout the 1990s and 2000s. These German-engineered locks provided multiple locking points—typically 5 or 6 points—combining rolling cams with vertical shootbolts for superior door security. At MPLocks, we maintain stock of replacement lock cases and conversion kits specifically designed to work with existing Fuhr door preparations, allowing homeowners and contractors to restore functionality without replacing the entire door system.
When replacing a Fuhr roller/shootbolt lock case, the most critical specifications are backset and PZ measurement. The backset (distance from the edge of the door to the spindle center) is typically 35mm or 45mm on these locks. The PZ measurement (92mm or 3-5/8 inches) indicates the spacing between handle and cylinder holes. Newer Fuhr lock cases connect to the faceplate with three screws—if your existing gearbox uses a different connection method, you'll need to verify compatibility before ordering a replacement.
Original Fuhr multipoint locks came in 5-point and 6-point configurations to accommodate different door heights. The 5-point version, common in Caradco doors, featured two rollers and shootbolts at top and bottom. For 8-foot doors, the 6-point configuration added a third roller for enhanced security across the taller door panel. When the original lock is no longer available, a 3-point shootbolt conversion kit can provide reliable performance using your existing strike preparations.
Before ordering a replacement lock case, measure your existing hardware carefully. Note the backset by measuring from the door edge to the center of the handle spindle hole. Check whether your lock case connects to the faceplate with three screws (newer style) or a different method (older style). Record the overall length of your lock assembly and the handle height from the bottom of the faceplate to the spindle center—this measurement must match for proper installation and handle alignment.
