View full detailsFuhr multipoint locks were widely installed in European-style entry doors throughout the 1980s and 1990s. The gear-operated system—engaging multiple bolts simultaneously with a single handle turn—was used by door manufacturers including Caradco, Hurd, Norco, Kolbe, and Weather Shield. FUHR hardware featured CES Euro profile cylinders with standard Schlage keys. Today, HOPPE's HLS9000 system is the primary replacement platform, available in five locking device configurations to match most original Fuhr installations.
FUHR multipoint locks were produced in five primary configurations: hook, roller, roundbolt, tongue, and shootbolt. Each type uses distinct locking devices that engage into strike pockets mortised into the door frame. Selecting the correct replacement requires matching handle height, backset, overall faceplate length, faceplate width, and locking position to the original hardware. HOPPE replacement kits are available for all five lock types and are engineered to fit within the existing routing of most doors originally equipped with Fuhr gear systems.
Proper identification is the most critical step before ordering a Fuhr multipoint lock replacement. Key measurements include handle height (distance from door bottom to center of handle spindle), backset (distance from door edge to center of spindle), overall faceplate length, and faceplate width. Most Fuhr lock cases display identifying numbers directly on the faceplate. A Fuhr Infosheet and Fuhr Worksheet are available to assist with identification—completing the worksheet before ordering significantly reduces the likelihood of receiving an incorrect replacement part.
FUHR hardware used CES Euro profile cylinders, typically at either 70mm or 92mm PZ—the center-to-center distance between the handle spindle and the cylinder. Verifying your PZ before ordering replacement hardware ensures the cylinder aligns correctly with existing mortise cutouts. The gear-operated latch can also be rehanded—reversing the slope to match the door swing—by disassembling the gear box without replacing the entire lock case. When measurements are uncertain, the Fuhr Worksheet provides a structured format to document your lock's key dimensions before ordering.
