View full detailsThe HOPPE 16mm auto tongue bottom gear is the foundation of your multipoint lock system, housing the main lock case and the automatic tongue mechanism that secures your door at the bottom locking point. When replacing older HLS2000 systems with gold-colored faceplates, MPLocks recommends transitioning to the current stainless steel versions—though be aware that the auto roller release position differs between old and new models, which may require replacing both the lower gear and upper extensions for proper alignment. HOPPE does not sell lock cases separately, so these complete bottom gear assemblies are the correct replacement approach.
The automatic tongue mechanism retracts smoothly when you open the door and automatically engages all locking points when the door closes, eliminating the need to manually lift the handle to secure your entry. This design provides both convenience and peace of mind, with a 25.4mm (1 inch) deadbolt throw that delivers reliable holding power in the locked position. The tongue operates in conjunction with the upper extensions to create a complete multipoint locking solution.
Current HOPPE bottom gear assemblies feature stainless steel faceplates that resist corrosion and maintain their appearance over years of daily use. This upgrade from the older gold-colored YDI finish versions means better performance in humid climates and coastal environments. The 16mm faceplate width is standard for European-style multipoint lock mortises, ensuring proper fit in doors originally equipped with HOPPE or compatible hardware.
Before ordering, verify that your existing system uses a 45mm backset (measured from the edge of the door to the center of the handle spindle hole) and 92mm PZ spacing (the distance from the spindle center to the cylinder center). The handle height of 914mm (36 inches) from the bottom of the gear should also match your current installation. If you're upgrading from an older HLS2000 gold faceplate system, plan to replace the upper extensions as well since the auto release mechanisms are positioned differently.
