What Is Multipoint Lock PZ?

In multipoint lock hardware, PZ is a spacing measurement used to match the correct handle trim to the lock inside the door. If the PZ does not match, the handle and key cylinder openings will not line up correctly.

Quick Take

PZ is the center-to-center distance between the handle spindle (the square hole the handle turns) and the keyhole or thumbturn.

What PZ Means

PZ tells you how far apart the handle and lock cylinder are positioned on the door. This measurement ensures the handle trim aligns with the internal multipoint lock mechanism.

How To Measure PZ

  1. Locate the handle spindle (the square opening for the handle).
  2. Locate the center of the keyhole or thumbturn.
  3. Measure the distance from center to center in millimeters.

Common PZ Sizes

The most common multipoint handle spacing is 92mm PZ, but other sizes are used. Always measure before ordering replacement handles or trim.

Tip: If a replacement handle nearly fits but the cylinder hole sits too high or too low, the PZ spacing is incorrect.
